Krystal To Award Largest Cash Purse In Competitive Eating Again

Victory tastes sweeter for competitive eaters with a total of $50,000 on the line.

The Krystal Company is stepping up once again to prove competitive eating is a big time sport with big time money on the line. On Sept. 27, 2009, at the Krystal Square Off VI World Hamburger Eating Championship, the fast food icon will once again award the largest cash purse in the sport of eating, a whopping $50,000.

Earning the lion’s share of the prize purse this year will be the Krystal Square Off VI winner, who will take home $20,000 in cash along with the coveted Krystal Square Off World Champion’s Belt and Crystal Trophy. Last year, that prize went to the number one-ranked eater in the world Joey Chestnut, who shocked a crowd of more than 10,000 by winning the title a second year in a row and easily defeating the great Takeru Kobayashi, who finished in a disappointing third.

While this year’s runner-up at Krystal Square Off VI will no doubt be disappointed for coming up short of the title, they won’t be disappointed with the hefty paycheck of $10,000 they’ll receive for their efforts. Same goes with the third place finisher, who will leave Chattanooga $5,000 richer.
